June 2023 Newsletter

30 June 2023 by swariders Leave a Comment

Congratulations

Congratulations to Andy Meechan and Nick Lucey for passing their test this month! Nick has obtained Silver and Andy has now upgraded to Gold!

Congratulations to both, hard work pays off!

Club Night meeting

This coming month, we will have a presentation about how to prepare and plan trips or routes using MyRoute-App.

Training

This month, we ran the Cornering Skills day with great success.

Next month, we have the Overtaking Skills day on Saturday, 22nd July. Keep an eye out for further details.

RideOuts

You all clearly like Evening Rides! Because of this, we have thought we would schedule 2 a month! Evening RideOuts are now on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.

This is great news but also hard work. Any full member that has passed their exam can led RideOuts. If you want to help, please contact Steve on events@swar.org.uk. You can check the RideOut dates in the website calendar.

The first Evening RideOut is on the 1st Thursday, 6th July. We will be leaving from Kineton at 7pm, the briefing will be at 6:50 (no briefing, no ride!). We will be heading to Chipping Campden where we can get a drink or even food. The ride will be about an hour and a half and will take us through some nice small roads in the Cotswolds.

Details for the Group RideOut and the other Evening RideOut will follow, keep an eye out!

The Tech Corner

Did you know you can subscribe to the Club’s calendar to avoid missing our events? By syncing the Club’s calendar with yours on your phone or laptop, you can have all the events automatically sent straight to you.

To do this, go to the calendar section in the website, scroll all the way down and click on “Subscribe to calendar” (see below) to see the different options to achieve this.

You now have no excuse to miss Club events!

February 2023 Newsletter

26 February 2023 by David Gomez Gonzalez Leave a Comment

The 1st Group Ride of 2023 saw number of our members head off toward Melton Mowbray before arcing to the north of Loughborough and then south to home.

In all 150miles and approx 4 hours riding.

Not long after leaving Market Harborough the ride was held up as a result of a collision on a right hand bend. A biker had collided with a car which was emerging from a nearside junction. The collision had damaged the front of the car but the bike looked a total wright off.

More importantly the rider had been thrown a way down the road and was being attended to by a 1st responder/Doctor. Shortly after the ambulance arrived our group were able to continue and after a short detour resume the planned route.

First thoughts were that the rider was way too close to the nearside junction and presumably had ignored the road sign which indicated the that there was a nearside junction on the bend – perhaps some advanced training would have helped to avoid the collision – however hopefully the rider will recover fully!

A Potential Observer Course has been arranged for the 11th and 12th of March. As there will be 8 candidates on the course hopefully this will generate a good number of Group Observers which should go a long way to lighten the load of the Observers we have at present.

The various Skills Workshops which were mentioned in last months Newsletter have not been forgotten and will be finalised in the very near future. You will appreciate hopefully that without enough Group Tutors these courses prove difficult to organise.

The Monthly Group Ride Outs for Gold and Silver Riders are on the Website and there are ride leaders allocated for the 1st 6 Rides. So more ride leaders are still required for the second half of the year – If you would like to put your name forward to organise and lead a ride please contact the Training Officer.

The Group Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 13th March. Please try and get along – this is your Group – everyone will have a chance to question the outgoing and ingoing committee about the Group activities and have a chance to put your ideas forward for what you would like to see in the coming months.

January 2023 Newsletter

25 January 2023 by David Gomez Gonzalez Leave a Comment

During January there have been some changes which may be of interest to you.
The Group Chairman and Training Officer have both stood down from their position.
Gordon McCue and David Gomez have stepped in until the AGM in March.

There are number of events being planned for the coming season of 2023, including both skills training workshops and a variety of ride outs.

To all our Associates – as soon as you are ready to brave the elements get in touch with your Observer and arrange some training sessions.

In order to help catch up with the backlog in training which we have at present we are planning to hold a 2 day training event. Over the 2 days those Associates who take part will be able to have 5/6 training sessions with various Observers which should make them all must closer to achieving Test Level.

Also as the weather improves the on-road training should get back into full swing.
